Hello! I’m Jill Mash, President of the Mitchell County Genealogical Society, Inc. based in Camilla, GA. We want to welcome anyone who is interested in researching their family history to join us at our monthly meetings held on the 3rd Saturday of each month (except Nov. & Dec.) at 10:00 am in the Betty Bailey Jones Genealogy Library inside the DeSoto Trail Regional Library.
I became interested in genealogy rather recently – in 2018, I began researching my husband’s family who had lived in Mitchell and Grady counties. I just happened to visit the library on a Saturday when a meeting was in progress, and everyone in attendance was very helpful with tips and local information. I joined the society, and was elected President in 2020.
We have a wonderful group of members who are passionate about their genealogy research, and with several members who have been researching for more than 20 years, we are well-equipped to provide assistance with your family history research. We often have programs during our meeting; for example: highlighting local history relevant to genealogy such as Bea’s Babies in Camilla, best practices for research online or how to use specific genealogy search tools, and how to use a variety of family tree applications. We welcome visitors, and hope you will join us at a monthly meeting, become a member, and move forward confidently in your search for your ancestors and family history.
